Finnish company Powerkiss has developed an integrated charging solution, which releases the user
from cables. The solution consists of a charging sender, which is integrated in the
furniture and a small charging stick. The wireless power is created between two resonating coils,
which are located both under the surface, and in the charging receiver. Powerkiss system is easy to
use; the charging stick is plugged in, and the device is placed upon the surface. Charging is
regulated automatically and stops when the battery is full.
Wireless charging brings new possibilities for e.g. offices and meeting rooms as well as for
travelling. Currently Powerkiss technology is suitable for smaller devices, such as cell phones and netbooks. In the future the same technology will be adapted for bigger laptops.
Powerkiss products have been developed and piloted in Finland. The first products were sold during November 2009; the first customers include Isku, Martela, Nokia and Helsinki Airport. What is most interesting, we are not going to stop with charging; in fact Powerkiss is going to be a platform for various location oriented mobile services in public places.
