"Books are portals to places where people gather, dialogue unfolds and change is ignited." –*openmargin

[What?]

The book is the beginning of a dialogue

The margin is the white space around a text. Being blank, it invites readers to make an annotation from their personal perspective.

When a digital book has an *openmargin, the margin is an open platform where readers of the same book exchange their viewpoints.

This means you can:

  • Highlight the words you love.
  • Contribute your viewpoint, by making an annotation.
  • Have a dialogue around these words with a diversity of people.

[Where?]

The *openmargin goes where the dialogue takes place

We're collaborating with the developers of eReaders to make the margin widespread. Is your favorite application without an *openmargin? Demand it kindly.

The website openmargin.com is a central place. It gives you an overview of all your annotations and those of others. After you've finished reading, the dialogue begins here.

[Who?]

The movement behind *openmargin

The main team exists of Ruth Koppenol, Marc Köhlbrugge and Joep Kuijper. We started out with a personal question; we wanted to connect to new people in a sincere way.

For this we needed something to connect 'around', something people really resonate with. We chose the book and all the words within.

Our pitch:

Exchange viewpoints around the words you love.
