IP (Internet) telephony is today established as the fixed line of choice for enterprises. However the technologies for pushing this infrastructure to the mobile is currently limited, which is a problem in a business world that demands mobility.
Novitell has developed the Novitell Fusion. A mobile VoIP solution dedicated to converging fixed line IP telephony with the mobile (Fixed Mobile Convergence). The basic idea is to offer a software based mobile client, that will allow a mobile phone to work as an IP phone within WLAN and as a regular mobile phone when outside. The client will secure a seamless handover between networks when needed and will supply the enterprise customer with relevant PBX facilities by integrating with the provider.
IP telephony is mostly offered from Internet Telephony Service Providers (ITSPs). These companies are currently gaining market shares on behalf of the more established telecommunication companies offering traditional telephony. However ITSPs have limited possibilities of offering mobility which is a challenge that will determine their possibilities of survival.
The business model is to offer the ITSPs a possibility to transfer their superior fixed line offer to the mobile providing them with a better value proposition, which will help them generate additional revenue streams, attract new customers and reduce churn. There are no large purchases needed but a small initial investment and a possibility to let the capacity grow in accordance with the success of the solution, which is critical in the current recession.
